Byron Gehring, Chairman & Chief Executive Officer, worked with the predecessor company as an advisor and investor in 1999 and co-founded ConvergenceHealth.com with Mr. Miller and Dr. Waltzer. Also during 1999, Mr. Gehring was President of Loan Eagle Strategies, Inc., which provided consulting services for mergers and acquisitions and seed capital venture investments. From 1991 to 1999, he was CEO and President of Applied Computer Technologies, Inc. and EVP/COO of Strategic Resource Solutions Inc., companies that he co-founded and sold to Carolina Power and Light. These companies provide Internet-enabled facility management software systems and energy efficient systems and services to the commercial and institutional markets. In 1998 the companies had over $60 million in revenues and 600 employees. From 1985 to 1991, Mr. Gehring was European Sales and Service Director with Devron-Hercules and Measurex, which provide process automation and high-tech control systems to the paper industry. He holds a BS in Chemical Engineering and a BA in German from Oregon State University and the University of Stuttgart with honors.
Jeff Aaron MBA, MS, Chief Operating Officer and VP of Finance, has 20 years' experience at senior management levels within both conventional and alternative healthcare, focusing on integrating wellness, prevention and complementary and alternative medicine into mainstream healthcare. Recently, Jeff transitioned to Internet technology as CEO/COO of Torson Group, Inc., and a content and technology company in the eHealth, sports and fitness fields. Previously, he was SVP of Business Development and Marketing for IDEA, the fitness professionals' association. He has worked with Deepak Chopra for several years, first as VP of Community Education for Sharp Healthcare, which developed one of the first integrated medicine programs within a hospital system. Jeff was instrumental in enticing Deepak to move to La Jolla from Massachusetts to work with them. Subsequently, Jeff helped develop the Chopra Center through his consulting firm, Management Innovations. Jeff is experienced at raising venture capital, developing land-based and Internet start-ups, and skilled at operations and strategic planning in both small and large companies.
Jay Handline, Chief Marketing Officer, has more than 20 years of experience at senior management levels on both the payer and provider sides of the health services industry. He has pioneered start-up ventures in multiple media platforms, including cable television, Internet and telephony, since 1995. Previously, Jay was Chief Operational Architect and Executive Vice President of Interactive Technology Solutions at RnetHealth.com, and was responsible for building the interactive technologies business unit, inclusive of both B2B and consumer applications. He has managed and co-founded two multi-media high-tech companies, and has managed and helped sell two additional start-ups.
As Senior Vice President of Business Development at Lifescape 1to1, a joint venture between TCI Digital Health Group and Recovery Television Network, Jay helped to successfully launch their web-based interactive behavioral health product in October of 1998. In 1995, Jay was involved in the start-up of Recovery Television Network as Senior Vice President of Business Development. He helped to secure private equity capital and forge successful partnerships to aggregate products, services and information from dozens of world-class partners, including AT&T/TCI, Liberty Media, J2S2, AOL, Yahoo, Viant, Digital Evolution, Medical Broadcast Company, Glaxo Wellcome, Rodale Press, Magellan Health Services, Value Options and The University of Florida Brain Institute.
Glenn Miller, Chief Technical Officer, has more than 28 years' experience in the technology industry. He most recently served as chief technology officer at Strategic Resource Solutions (SRS) Corp., a technology-based energy services company and a wholly owned subsidiary of the Fortune 500 utility, Carolina Power and Light. Deloitte & Touche named SRS North Carolina's seventh fastest growing technology company in 1999. He developed SRS's innovative core technology, offering a web-based platform that enables organizations to control, navigate and monitor all facility operations through the Internet, as well as many other internet-based tools and services.
Prior to SRS, Mr. Miller held a senior executive position at Applied Computer Technologies, where he led the strategic vision and development of PC and Internet-based products. In 1993 ACT was named to the Inc. 500 list as one of the fastest growing technology companies in the US. In 1994, he developed the market's first Internet-based real-time workflow management software. In 1995 he was recognized by Microsoft Corp. as one of the top 20 developers in the world.
Ken Waltzer MD, MPH, Chief Medical Officer & Director, is a Harvard-trained and educated board-certified Internist and Geriatrician. He founded the predecessor company, Convergence Health, Inc., in 1997, and co-founded ConvergenceHealth.com in 2000. From 1990 to 1997, Dr. Waltzer was with Kaiser-Permanente, where he was the first Preventive Care Coordinator for Southern California. While at Kaiser, he was also Director of Medical Education at the West Los Angeles Medical Center and cared for one of the largest practices in Internal Medicine with nearly 2000 patients. Dr. Waltzer was specifically cited for his role in developing statewide guidelines for preventive care. Dr. Waltzer holds a BA cum laude from Harvard College, an MD from Baylor College of Medicine, and an MPH in Health Policy and Management from the Harvard School of Public Health. His internship and residency in Primary Care Internal Medicine were at The Cambridge Hospital of Harvard Medical School.
